About Creative Nelson
What is Creative Nelson?
Creative Nelson is a FREE bi-monthly eMagazine
FOR and ABOUT Creatives in Nelson Tasman.
The goal of the magazine is to inspire others and to share the stories behind the artwork and of the artist themselves.
Each issue profiles the region's talent from students to commercial creatives, from poetry to music, art and design and so much more + informative and educational articles.
Nelson is a hub of creativity and sadly we often fall short in knowing what other creatives are up to in the region and their stories. Creative Nelson is a way to share the stories of our locals and offer tips and advice in various creative industries in the hopes to support and inspire our community. This is a way to unite our talented region in a simple, effective and informative way.
How it came about:
As a creative myself (Amanda Sears), with a strong interest in the Nelson community, I wanted to create something that displayed the amazing range of talent of those that work and live here. From studying at NMIT and being a part of local art groups and committees, I have seen the quality of work firsthand and know the amount of talented people who's work often goes unnoticed locally. I observed that we are often too busy to commit to following everyone online and attending all art shows and exhibitions and saw an opportunity to provide an easier and more reachable way to keep in touch with the local creative community while embracing the ease the digital worl provides us. I love Nelson and finding ways to increase community interaction. I conveniently have a well established background in layout design, journalism, print and marketing so what better way to use these skills, than to create a FREE eMagazine for everyone! And so it began in 2017...
